    This Australian developed hybrid has stocked the shelves of supermarkets and homes since the discovery in 1868 by 'Granny' Anne Smith of Ryde, New South Wales; hence the name. It's well recognised for its crisp tart flavour and distinctive bright green fruit. During spring an abundance of pale white to pink flowers bloom. Apples thrive in cooler climate zone. This deciduous tree will fruit January to May and benefits from full sun exposure. Granny Smith, and prefers well drained, fertile soils. Apple Granny Smith is relatively low maintenance. It does prefer regular deep watering when dry and complete fertilising in colder winter months. It is ideal for another apple to be planted nearby for pollination; the most well suited being Golden Delicious. Apple Granny Smith can grow to a height of 7 metres and a width of 5 metres.
