Bottlebrush
Callistemon viminalis Better John is a small native shrub bred from the popular Little John. Fresh new growth is almost silver while the mature foliage is blue-green, contrasting well with the red cylindrical flowers when they appear in mid to late spring. Better John is a faster growing variety than Little John and is quicker to establish. This variety will reach its full height potential when well maintained, however when planted in tough roadside conditions, growth will be hindered. Better John is ideal for mass planting, general landscape and home backyard garden use. Plant in a full sun to light shade position. It is adaptable to a range of soil types from sandy to well drained soils. Better John is drought tolerant and has low to moderate frost tolerance. Water well until established and prune as required. Low water requirements once established, prune when necessary to maintain a compact shape. Callistemon viminalis Better John will grow to a height of 60cm - 1.2m and a width of 60 - 90cm.
